During the council’s last meeting on Tuesday, June 25, members questioned the accuracy and transparency of the city’s budget. Officials confirmed in the finance and special meeting that Springs submitted his resignation on June 25, and his last day will be Tuesday, July 9.

Steele urged the mayor to ensure a comprehensive search for a qualified professional to serve as comptroller. “We must preserve the strong financial foundation built under Mayor Madden during the previous eight years,” Steele said.

“Math is not political, and neither should be the city comptroller,” Steele added. “It’s concerning the administration is signaling their desire to hire someone with political experience equal to municipal finance experience.”
