TROY, Pa. ( WETM ) – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to utilize signed detours on Route 6 on their travels to the Troy Fair next week as the truss bridge over Sugar Creek is still closed.

The Troy Fair will be taking place from Monday, July 22, through Saturday, July 27, in Troy Township. Drivers traveling to the fair are reminded that Route 6 is closed in both directions between Leona Road and Mud Creek Road after an oversized load struck and damaged the bridge on June 12.

Signed detour routes have been put in place to avoid damage to local roads and to keep them available for emergency vehicles. The detours were established to provide as much route consistency as possible to Route 6 as crews work to repair the bridge .

Signed detours to navigate the bridge closure are as follows:

    Passenger vehicles

    • Use Leona Road, Route 4014 (Springfield Road) and Route 14

    Large trucks and commercial vehicles

    • Use Berwick Turnpike (Route 4013), Springfield Road and Route 14

According to PennDOT, repair work on the bridge is moving as expected.

On Friday, June 19, the contractor worked to perform steel testing and remove other damaged components of the bridge. The steel testing revealed no additional damage to the components. Additionally, the first steel shipment has been received, with plans to replace some of the damaged components this weekend.

Repair work on the bridge began on Monday, July 8, and is expected to be completed by the end of August 2024. For more information about the bridge repair, including updates on its status, visit the project website .
