Ohio man charged after dad’s legs were found 'sticking out' of garbage bag

TROTWOOD, Ohio (TCN) -- A 23-year-old man is being charged for allegedly making calls from his father’s phone several months after the father’s dismembered remains were found in trash bags and a storage unit.

The Dayton Daily News reports Tygan Keiter was indicted July 29 on two counts of tampering with evidence following the death of Edgar Keiter Sr.

According to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, on April 22, Trotwood Police received a call from someone who said there was a garbage bag in their driveway "that appeared to have human legs sticking out." The remainder of the victim’s body parts were located in a nearby storage unit on May 1.

The Dayton Daily News reports officials identified Keiter Sr. as the victim by using a serial number found on his knee replacement. On April 26, Trotwood Police contacted the Kettering Police Department because they learned Edgar Keiter lived in Kettering. The next day, Kettering Police got a report that appliances and carpet were stolen from Edgar Keiter’s apartment. Investigators issued a warrant for Edgar Keiter Jr.’s arrest for theft. On May 3, he was charged with three counts of tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse.

According to the affidavit cited by the Dayton Daily News, Tygan Keiter reportedly told detectives he "had conversations with Edgar Keiter Jr. prior to Keiter Sr.’s death about trying to make Keiter Sr. put Tygan on his will."

After Keiter Sr. died, Keiter Jr. allegedly told Tygan Keiter to send text messages from their 75-year-old father’s phone. Tygan Keiter reportedly went to his father’s apartment and found him "on the floor with a knife through his chest."

Keiter Jr.’s girlfriend, Amanda Reiff, is also facing charges of complicity to commit tampering with evidence and complicity to commit gross abuse of a corpse. The Dayton Daily News reports Reiff told a witness "that she might have to help get rid of the body due to the odor and Jr. was in jail at the time."

Tygan Keiter is in custody at the Montgomery County Jail with bond set at $150,000.
