Maryland - U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, 70, has been hospitalized since Monday due to complications from an elective medical procedure.

The Pentagon disclosed this information late on Friday without specifying the nature of his treatment or the reasons for maintaining confidentiality about his hospital stay. General Austin, who is 70, sits just below Biden at the top of the chain of command of the US military,

Ryder said Ryan said Austin was placed in the hospital’s intensive care unit “due to his medical needs, but then remained in that location in part due to hospital space considerations and privacy”.
