TRYON—On Saturday, August 10, the Tryon Downtown Development Association celebrated the expansion of Back Alley Boutique & Bud Bar with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 28 Oak Street in Tryon. The expansion incorporates the neighboring building into the existing space, providing a much larger area for the business to grow and diversify its offerings.

Co-owner Gabby Horvath has established a sewing studio within the expanded space, along with a crafting area designed to host workshops, classes, small events, and pop-ups. In an inaugural event following the ribbon cutting, Back Alley Boutique & Bud Bar hosted the “Paint & Puff” event in collaboration with Kaleidoscope Studios Art, led by Kristen Mode of eARThly Minds Gallery.

Speaking about the new sewing studio, Horvath expressed her excitement, stating, “I’ve been sewing since I was young, and we were looking to add a space for a sewing studio so we could do more crafting. I have worked for several places, including Misty Mountain Threadworks and Sew Co., and I feel we’re tapping into the rich history of textiles in Western North Carolina.”

The expansion enables Horvath to showcase her hand-sewn items such as hats, clothing, and upcycled creations like a tank top and shorts combo made from vintage curtains.

Back Alley Boutique & Bud Bar aims to destigmatize cannabis use and educate consumers about its benefits while maintaining a welcoming and clean environment for positive interactions with hemp. The establishment is committed to offering a curated selection of locally created and sourced arts, crafts, gifts, and high-quality hemp products.

“We appreciate the TDDA doing all of this to celebrate our expansion,” said co-owner Ryan Mesa. “We’re really excited about getting our cannabis and crafting series rolled out, and for Gabby to have an opportunity to make more things. We’ll have more clothing and arts and crafts classes coming, and we’ll have lots more hemp-based products and arts and crafts from Western North Carolina.”
