Airing of the Quilts’ to take place in downtown Landrum on Saturday

LANDRUM—The Airing of the Quilts will be held on Saturday, August 17, in downtown Landrum, offering a unique opportunity to view a large display of quilts made by talented local artists. This free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along North Trade Avenue.

The Airing of the Quilts has its roots in a centuries-old tradition. Quilts, often made out of scraps of material and clothing, were a necessity to keep families warm. Each year during the warmth of spring and summer, families would hang their quilts to air out in the bright sun so they would be fresh for the approaching fall and winter.

The Dulcimer Group will perform during the airing. The event is presented by the Landrum Quilters.
