TDDA receives grants for downtown beautification

TRYON—The Tryon Downtown Development Association has recently secured grants totaling $12,500 to support the beautification of downtown Tryon.

The Polk County Appearance Commission awarded a $2,500 grant in addition to a generous $10,000 grant from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.

These grants will enhance the landscape surrounding the clocktower and install tree uplighting. As part of a trial run, uplighting has already been implemented in Morris, showcasing color-changing lights that are environmentally conscious and dark sky-friendly.

The Polk County Appearance Commission Beautification Grant Committee consists of Carolyn Ashburn, Deborah Torrence, and Denny Crowe.

Crowe, a TDDA board member and leader of the TDDA Design Committee, presented the landscape plan to the Town Council during the August 6 meeting, and it was approved.

Crowe has diligently collaborated with the landscape designer to ensure that the selected plants are native, visually appealing, and low maintenance, aiming to create a more pedestrian-friendly downtown environment.

The TDDA’s mission is centered on preserving and enhancing the community of Tryon through a downtown revitalization program that prioritizes economic vitality, excellent urban design, and historic preservation.
