TRYON—National HealthCare Corporation, a leading senior care provider, recently acquired the White Oak Senior Living portfolio, which includes White Oak Village and White Oak Manor in Tryon. The acquisition also includes other operations in North and South Carolina and was formalized on August 1, following the Purchase and Sale Agreement signed on May 31, 2024.

The White Oak portfolio includes six skilled nursing facilities in North Carolina. Three are continuing-care retirement centers, and one is a leased facility. In South Carolina, the portfolio comprises nine skilled nursing facilities, one of which offers assisted and independent living units.

“We are honored to acquire and operate the White Oak brand and continue to provide critical services to their patients and families,” said National HealthCare Corporation CEO Steve Flatt in a statement.

This move expands NHC’s operations in the state and strategically enhances its growth within its existing operational footprint. The White Oak acquisition will further augment NHC’s offerings by incorporating 1,928 skilled nursing beds, 48 assisted living units, and 302 independent living units into its current operations.

White Oak, a family-owned company established in 1964 and headquartered in Spartanburg, prioritized finding a buyer who shared its cultural values.

“As a family-owned company, finding the buyer that had the right cultural fit with White Oak was critical,” President of White Oak Doug Cecil stated on his company’s website. “We are pleased that we found that with NHC and are excited for our residents’ continued care.”

NHC is headquartered in Murfreesboro, Tenn, and currently operates 75 skilled nursing centers, 25 assisted living communities, a behavioral health hospital, five retirement communities and 35 homecare agencies
