Habitat for Humanity accepting homeowner applications for new build

Home being built on Trade Avenue in honor of Lee Cobourn

LANDRUM—The local branch of Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting homeowner applications for its new home being constructed in Landrum.

The home, built in honor of the late Lee Cobourn, is currently under construction on Trade Street. Coburn, a longtime Habitat volunteer and board member, passed away in November 2022.

“Lee would have been humbled,” Lee’s wife, Jeaneen Cobourn, said at a wall-raising ceremony in June. “Habitat meant a lot to him, and he would have enjoyed seeing the house.”

Applications are open for community members with low to moderate incomes who need safe, affordable housing. Applicants must also be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage while partnering with Habitat.

Linda Saturno, the executive director of Henderson County & Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity, emphasized the need for affordable housing in the area.

“There is such a need for affordable housing in Landrum and surrounding communities,” said Saturno. “We encourage anyone in the area who is interested in partnering with Habitat to apply for home ownership.”

Habitat has been building homes in the area for decades, living up to its motto, “Bringing people together and empowering families through shelter.” Local operations began in 1984.
