COLUMBUS—The Town Council meeting at Columbus Town Hall on September 19 featured many discussions and decisions that will impact the community.

Public comments included suggestions to move meeting times to accommodate working families and concerns regarding sewage leaks, water supply, and traffic studies.

During the meeting, Graham Fields of AdventHealth introduced himself to the Council, and name changes within the AdventHealth property were approved.

One significant decision was approving a third-party water system evaluation, as the volunteer planning board suggested. It was agreed that the development team associated with the Feagan Property Development would fund the study, and the town would own it. Discussions took place regarding using a moratorium to address future development-related concerns.

The meeting also addressed the capacity of the water tank and sewage processing, which are important factors for the town’s infrastructure. The water capacity will soon be 1 million gallons. Meanwhile, sewage processing is currently at 25% of its capacity.

The Council also discussed the upcoming Fall Festival on September 28, organized by Discover Columbus. The festival plans to feature food, live bands, and crafts. Discover Columbus proposed a budget and sought approval and recommendations for future festivals, including gathering local businesses to create a raffle to fund it.

Lastly, the Council approved staggered terms for the volunteer planning board and rescheduled its meeting dates. The next planning board meeting will be on Monday, October 14, at 6 p.m. at the Womack Building at 40 Courthouse Street.

The Columbus Town Council will meet again on October 17 at 5 p.m. at the Town Hall.
