TRYON— On Wednesday, June 12, at approximately 12 p.m., the Tryon Fire Department responded to a minor fuel spill at the intersection of N. Trade St. and W. Howard St.

Upon arriving, officials discovered roughly a few gallons of diesel fuel had leaked into the street and quickly stopped the spill from spreading. Firefighters applied oil-dry to the area on the remaining fuel.

It is currently unknown what may have caused the spill. Firefighters believe it may have been from a fuel tanker spreading diesel while working on road paving repairs on W. Howard St., but it has not been confirmed.

“Tryon Fire Department personnel responded and quickly stopped any fuel from reaching sewers and waterways, as well as mitigating any potential hazards to vehicles parked along Trade Street,” said TFD Public Information Officer Steven Siler on Wednesday. “There was no harm to civilians or the environment during the incident.”
