TRYON—The Kiwanis Club of Tryon recently nominated Cam Lawrence and Stan Gibson for induction into the Second Wind Hall of Fame and both nominations were accepted. The two were officially inducted at the Kiwanis meeting on July 18.

Cam has been an active member of Kiwanis for a number of years. She is also part of the Friends of Landrum Library and is active at Holy Cross Episcopal Church. She leads a grief group that meets monthly and teaches an eight-week grief class several times a year. She also works with the local Alzheimer’s group.

Cam moved to the Foothills in 1974 from Charleston, SC. There, she worked as an RN and with Charleston County Health. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a nurse’s degree. She started patient education at St. Luke’s Hospital and helped start the first hospice house in Landrum.  Cam has helped students receive their CNA degrees. She has two children and enjoys singing in Holy Cross’s choir, gardening, traveling and cooking.

Stan has been active in Kiwanis since 2016, participating in all the good works that Kiwanis does. At Outreach, he has volunteered in the food pantry, stocking shelves and assisting clients for many years. He served as a greeter at the St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Room and works with the Kairos Prison Ministry.

Stan moved to the Foothills area in 2016 and immediately became involved. He has been a restaurant owner, a purchasing agent for engineering companies, and a judge of food services for army bases. He has a BA from Davidson College, has three children and loves to travel, play tennis, and participate in church activities. He has a special interest in prison ministry and the homeless. He would like to be remembered for helping others less fortunate.

The mission of Second Wind is to identify outstanding volunteers who contribute so much to the quality of life in the community and to recognize retirees sixty years and over who had a useful and productive life continuing beyond retirement while others paused to rest. They caught a ‘second wind’ and began a new career of service to the community and to mankind.

Second Wind Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3) organization and welcomes nominations for induction.  Requests for nomination forms may be sent to carolbrowning72@gmail.com .
