The Tucker City Council approved an extension on a Special Land Use Permit for a proposed development at 2059 Northlake Parkway. (Supplied by City of Tucker).

The Tucker City Council approved several design contracts to increase walkability throughout the city at its July 9 meeting.

The council approved design work for sidewalks projects on Idlewood Road from Elmsdale Drive to Duesenberg Drive, Brockett Road from Comanche Drive to Railroad Avenue, and Mountain Industrial Boulevard from the Popeye’s (south of Greer Circle) to the Speedway (north of E. Ponce de Leon Avenue). All of the projects will be financed using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds.

Each sidewalk will measure about one-third of a mile, according to staff memos presented to the council.

In other action, the council voted 7-0 for an extension of a Special Land Use Permit to owner Resia for a proposed development at 2059 Northlake Parkway. The council had originally approved the SLUP in 2022 and extended it in 2023.

The SLUP approval included a mix of office, retail/restaurant, co-working space, and multifamily residential, with a maximum of 280 multi-family units in three new residential buildings and a maximum of 129 residential units in the existing office building.

Since construction has not begun, Tucker staff recommended that the extension not be granted, but council members said they still believe in the project and see no downside to giving the developers more time to bring it to fruition.

“I don’t see any negatives in continuing this extension,” Councilwoman Alexis Weaver said. “We’ve put a lot of hard work into this plan.”

    The council:

    • also approved a SLUP that would allow for the construction of a Fifth Third bank branch with an ATM drive-though at 3925 LaVista Road.
    • Commended the city’s parks and recreation staff for its hard work for Tucker citizens.
    • Approved a $21,000 change order for stormwater repairs after it was discovered there was more debris and root intrusion than expected.
