City of Tulsa one step closer to opening its first low-barrier shelter

TULSA, Okla. — The City of Tulsa announced its plans to lease a former nursing home and rehabilitation center near Mohawk Park Golf Course.

The City Lights Foundation is going to operate what they're calling a residential care shelter.

Sarah Grounds, executive director of the City Lights Foundation, said the shelter will help people experiencing homelessness transition into more permanent housing. "This is just that transitional place that offers dignity and safety but also connects them with all the resources they need to be able to move forward," said Grounds. "Then once they're in housing, cause we'll walk with them through all of that, getting people placed into housing, then our housing stability team will make sure they have everything they need to stay in housing." The shelter is set to open in November. You can find more information on the City of Tulsa's residential care shelter by clicking
