EMSA warns against brutal heat ahead of triple digit temperatures

TULSA, Okla. — Temperatures will be rising into the triple digits once again this weekend and next week. FOX23 spoke with EMSA about how to stay cool and safe.

FOX23 spoke with EMSA’s Clinical Supervisor, Kofi Wallace, about what can happen if you're not careful in this brutal heat.

With these high temperatures and heat index, it's important to stay hydrated and try not to go out in the sun if you don't have to.

FOX23 spoke with EMSA’s Clinical Supervisor, Kofi Wallace, about what can happen if you're not careful in this brutal heat.

"What it looks like for us on the ambulance is heat emergencies,” he said. “So, we have heat stress, we have heat exhaustion, heat stroke, which all could manifest in sweating, sweating profusely and with heat stroke it gets to where you're not sweating at all. Which is a really true emergency we see in the ER. So, lightheaded, dizzy, nausea. These are all symptoms that let us know that somebody is having a heat emergency, so this is what it could lead to if you don't stay hydrated and minimize your exposure to the heat and sun."

Wallace said to be mindful of the weather. Again, he said to stay hydrated and out of the sun as much as possible so there aren't any heat emergencies.

EMSA also said there are cooling stations in the Tulsa area.

Here’s the list of those cooling stations:

    • John 3:16 | 906 N. Cheyenne Avenue, 2134 N. Madison Place |  8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • Salvation Army | 102 N. Denver Avenue | 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
