TULSA, Okla. — Members of the community got together for the Tulsa Really Really Free Market on Saturday.

Branded as a community sharing event, the Really Really Free Market is an opportunity for people to come give away things they no longer need for free. Sharing items isn't required to shop, according to event organizers.

Saturday's event, called the July Market, was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kendall Whittier Neighborhood in midtown Tulsa.

FOX23 stopped by the event and spoke with Rags Ragland, an organizer of the market.

He said the Tulsa Really Really Free Market has been running for about two and a half years. They hold the event on the second Saturday of every month.

Ragland said the Really Really Free Market is part of an international anti-capitalist movement.

"So we're horizontally organized," he said. "Nobody runs the market, everybody gets equal say, we're totally democratically ran."

He said they usually see about 350-400 people a month.

"We usually see about 350 to 400 people a month, which we really value because that means that there's about 350 to 400 families that get a positive value from the influx of free items from our event," Ragland said.

He said all kinds of items are donated for the event such as clothes, shoes, books and household items.

"One person today left with a bookshelf," Ragland said. "Another person left with a window unit, AC unit."

They also have a potluck every month where volunteer cooks prepare donated food.

"Anybody who wants to participate in community without money being involved, were inviting everybody to come out," Ragland said.

Ragland said the event was inspired by an article from an independent magazine.

"The article was about a Really Really Free Market that was in the Philippines, and one of our organizers was very inspired and gave a passionate recount of reading the article and several of us were like, "Yeah, we think this is something we can accomplish," he said.

The Really Really Free Market on the second Saturday of every month. It runs all year long. When it's cold out, the market is held at an indoor venue.

The August Market will be held at Mass Movement Community Arts near Admiral and Peoria.

Ragland said they provide updates on social media about the location and time of the monthly event.

He said anyone wanting to be involved in the next Really Really Free Market can contact them on social media.
