Good News: FOX23 speaks to racecar driver and Tulsa-native, Taylor Reimer

TULSA, Okla. — Taylor Reimer put down her pom-poms and picked up a helmet, trading cheerleading for driving a racecar.

“My dad grew up racing and when I was six years old, he put me in a go-cart and I fell in love with it," Reimer said.

Reimer drove racecars all her life but considered it a hobby. When she was a teenager, she decided to take a break and focus on cheer and getting a degree. After seven years she realized she wasn’t done racing.

“About midway through college, Covid ended up happening," she explained. "I had extra free time and that’s how I got back into racing after taking so much time off."

Reimer went from planning to work in medical sales to joining Toyota’s driver development program. Now she’s in North Carolina, training with Toyota.

“I never would’ve guessed this I where I'd end up after college … I was just getting a degree thinking about what I’d be doing with my life, this is not what I was expecting but it’s a blessing," Reimer said. "I always knew I’d get back in racing at some point, I’ve always had a passion for it. I’m grateful to be back in the sport."

Reimer said she’s proud to be a woman in racing and doesn’t really think about it too much.

“I do feel like there’s a lot more pressure on me because in other instances not a lot of girls have made it to the top of racing in NASCAR," she explained. "Hopefully, I can do everything right and make it there."

Reimer said she hopes more girls will get into racing.

“I hope that younger girls that are up and coming are inspired by it but besides that, I’m out there like any other driver,” Reimer said.

Reimer is training to race on pavement after growing up racing on dirt. Her goal is to get to NASCAR.
