West Tulsa retirement community members face off in pickleball tournament

TULSA, Okla. — A west Tulsa retirement community is getting ready for the Olympics by playing their own games.

People in the Hyde Park community near West 91st Street and Highway 75 are competing in week-long Olympic games.

Tuesday night, 30 players went head-to-head in a pickleball tournament.

The social committee decided to hold these games for the first time because of how much excitement they've seen building for the Paris Olympics.

"We have like 67 people competing in 21 events, so it's beginning to feel a tiny bit like Paris, but it's just really exciting to see way more people than we thought come out for different events and getting to meet neighbors in different ways than they have before," said Xan Black with the Hyde Park Social Committee.

The other events people can compete in include swimming, putting and poker.

The Hyde Park Olympics closing ceremony is Friday when the Paris Olympics opens.
