    Man in critical condition after stabbing near BOK Center, suspect released

    UPDATE (7/29/24): Tulsa Police tracked down the suspect from a stabbing on Saturday, but released him after video shows the victim may have started the conflict.

    Police said officers responded to a stabbing near 2nd and Denver around 10 a.m. on Saturday.

    Tulsa Police said witnesses called 911 and said two men were fighting in the street. One man took out a knife and stabbed the other man, then took off running.

    Officers found a the victim with stab wounds to the abdomen and he was taken to the hospital and rushed into surgery, Tulsa Police said. He was reportedly in critical condition from the latest update.

    Officers found security video of the stabbing in the area which showed the victim may have started the conflict.

    Police said the suspect was identified through the investigation. He was questioned and released, pending further investigation.

    Tulsa Police said at this time, the stabbing appears to have been self-defense.

    "All the evidence in this case will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office, who will determine if charges should be filed," Tulsa Police said.

    According to Tulsa Police, two men got into a fight near 2nd and Denver around 10 a.m. Saturday. Police said one man stabbed the other and left the scene.

    The victim is in critical condition, police said.

    Police said they have not found the suspect just yet, but received surveillance video from a nearby business to gather a description.

    “That showed an altercation between a white male and a black male. Basically, they passed each other on the street. Obviously, we don’t know what they said, and then they had a pretty intense fight," said Lt. Josh Goldstein. "A white male stabbed the black male.

    Police said the situation seemed random so they want residents to be aware of their surroundings.

    “Maybe don’t stare at our phones all the time when we’re walking down the street. Keep your eyes up because people do weird things, as evidenced by this," Goldstein said.
