Indian Nations Council of Governments wanting feedback from Tulsa area residents on project plan

TULSA, Okla. — The Indian Nations Council of Governments (INCOG) will host open houses for the next 12 months to get feedback from people in the Tulsa region.

The GO Plan is a Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan that provides a comprehensive regional plan for pedestrian and bicycle improvements.

“We really want to make sure that the projects that are done over the next 5, 10, 20, 30 years will really serve the needs of the people of this region well,” said Thomas Dow, Director of Transportation for INCOG.

Dow said concerns could be anything from walking safety to bicycle safety in your neighborhood and in your region, or even places that need improvements.

Part of the plan will connect eleven cities by a trail network. The GO Plan will touch Broken Arrow, Sand Springs, Jenks, Bixby, Glenpool, Owasso, Skiatook and Collinsville. The Go Plan also includes a new active transportation plan for Sapulpa and a plan for Claremore’s Sioux Avenue Corridor.

“I really would encourage anybody to come out to the three open houses we have this week to discuss with us whatever concerns you might have,” Dow said.

    Open houses are from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a short orientation presentation at 5:30 p.m.

    • Tuesday, July 30—Sapulpa City Hall, 425 E. Dewey Ave.
    • Wednesday, July 31—Broken Arrow Library, 300 W. Broadway Ave.
    • Thursday, August 1—Tulsa Public Library, 400 Civic Center

Marty Shukert is leading the consulting team RDG Planning & Design for the GO Plan. He is visiting the region to get a first-hand look and feel at bike paths.

“It's to understand how areas fit together, what facilities are there and what the needs might be,” he said.

Shukert said that the whole process is to maximize collaboration.

INCOG will spend the next 12 months working on the GO Plan. Dow said in the future there will be more opportunities for people to give their feedback about projects.

They expect to have a packaged project ready to start by September 2025.
