Widespread Power Outages During Triple Digit Heat Wave
Sonora, CA — PG&E reports that there are thousands of customers without electricity, with the hardest hit areas being around Groveland and Angels Camp. 2,900 customers lost electricity shortly before 6:30 pm in the greater Groveland area and southeast of Sonora and Jamestown. PG&E reports that the outage is “weather related.” The Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services also put out a statement indicating that PG&E was “reaching critical loading levels” in the Groveland area. PG&E says it is unclear when the power will be restored.

Power Outage In Tuolumne County
Sonora, CA –PG&E is reporting a power outage in the Sonora and East Sonora areas of Tuolumne County. It began around 4 a.m. Those impacted are 95 customers along Mono Way, Cedar Road and Chaparral Road. The company reports that a crew is working to make repairs, as it says this is a result of an equipment issue. The estimated restoration time is posted as yet to be determined.
Fireworks Warnings Across Mother Lode
Sonora, CA — As Independence Day nears, fire officials are warning that fireworks are banned in many parts of the Mother Lode. At this week’s Sonora City Council meeting, Fire Chief Aimee New reminded, “All fireworks are illegal in the city limits, including ‘safe and sane.’ So, please, do not bring any fireworks into the city limits. You will get fined.”
Tuolumne County Offering Spots To Cool Off During Heat Wave
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services is recommending that people cool off at the local public libraries and pools during this week’s heat wave. Of note, the Sonora Main Library’s conference room (480 Greenley Road) will be open during special hours on Thursday, July 4, Independence Day, from 12:30-6pm, and during the same hours on Sunday, July 7.
