TUPELO — Tupelo officials took the next step in a years-long process to expand its natural debris landfill with the purchase of more than 200 acres of farmland adjacent to its current class II rubbish site in east Tupelo.

The Tupelo City Council voted this week to approve the up to $658,000 purchase of 235 acres off of South Veterans Memorial Boulevard near Camco Roofing Supplies. The property was owned previously by BSB Associates.
