    Saving lives by preventing suicide has broad impact

    Anyone can learn how to divert a person from suicide, and a class on that subject is open to the public two weeks from today, Aug. 17, at the American Legion building in Tupelo.

    When Dan Johnson, of Tupelo, lost his son to suicide in 2013, he lost a tremendous part of himself as well. The tragedy that took his son’s life changed the lives of everyone who knew the young man. Part of the hole it left in Johnson’s soul has been filled by his mission to keep others from experiencing the same. Though the void in his own life will never be healed, the opportunity to save others from falling into a similar chasm gives him great purpose.
