Flash flood watch issued for Midlands, widespread rain expected Thursday
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for parts of the Midlands lasting until Thursday at 11 p.m. because of excessive rainfall. The unstable patterns will remain until the end of this week as showers and isolated thunderstorms form along a front pushing through the region's northwest.
Rain continues to stream through the area
The chance for thunderstorms will continue through the end of the week. A weak cold front stalled in the area will bring a greater chance for thunderstorms today and Friday as well as the chance for heavy rain. The Weather Prediction Center has put the entire area in a slight risk (15%) for excessive rainfall. There’s a Flood Watch for the entire area until midnight. It will be mostly cloudy the next two days, and that will keep temperatures in the 80s.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Periods of heavy rain will continue at times tonight and Friday before dryer weather and a brief break in humidity arrive by the weekend. The FLASH FLOOD WATCH that is out for the entire area has been extended until Friday evening. Heavy rain over the past several days has led to saturated soils across the watch area. Additional heavy rainfall is expected this evening and Friday evening. This additional rainfall will increase the potential for flash flooding.
