Verisk Analytics Inc. said Friday that Hurricane Beryl caused between $2 billion and $3 billion in insured onshore property damage when it struck Texas earlier this month. The Jersey City, New Jersey-based analytics company said the storm, which made landfall near Houston on July 8 as a Category 1 hurricane after hitting several Caribbean islands and Mexico as a much stronger storm, caused widespread power outages.

Amarillo City council continues to work to revise charter amendments
Members of the Amarillo City Council and the charter review committee discussed four proposed city charter amendments at Tuesday’s special meeting in downtown Amarillo. Of the four charter amendments, the one that received the most discussion was Proposition C, which would increase the number of councilmembers to six, not counting the mayor, with three council seats requiring residents to live in the district they serve in.
