The University of Alabama (UA) recently recognized area students for achieving academic excellence in the spring 2024 semester by announcing individuals named to UA’s dean’s or president’s lists. Graduates of UA programs were also announced and included a few local students who met their higher education goals.
Among those named to UA honors lists was Matthew Head from Benton, who made the dean’s list. He was named among 13,103 UA students enrolled during the semester and named to the dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA). Students named to the president’s list maintained a GPA of 4.0 (all A’s) in the university’s 70 undergraduate programs.
Letohatchee native Nyla Hayes received her graduate degree, earning her Master of Accountancy.
Some 6,000 degrees were awarded during The University of Alabama’s spring 2024 commencement at Coleman Coliseum.
In Crenshaw County, several students were recognized on the honors lists including the following:
* President’s list: Elizabeth Cawley of Brantley, Austin Boyd of Highland Home, Quintasia June of Lapine, Baleigh Johnson, Elizabeth Jones, Riley Marchand, Summer Waters and Kevin Bowen of Luverne and
* Dean’s list: Katrina Cook and Campbell Hawthorne of Brantley, Charlie McVay of Highland Home and Micaiah June and Auburn Morrell of Luverne.
Bowen received his Bachelor of Arts during graduation. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science, Anna Kilcrease received a Master of Science in Nursing and Marchand earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Butler County students named to the lists were:
* President’s list: Parker McNaughton and Mary Hutson of Greenville and
* Dean’s list: Samantha White and Mykel Cheatheam of Georgiana and Nolleigh Reeves of Greenville.
Leann Rhodes of Greenville received an Educational Specialist degree at UA’s recent commencement ceremony.
