TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Alabama Power is sending 350 workers to Houston to help restore power after tropical storm Beryl made landfall causing lots of damage.

50 Alabama Power crew members left from Tuscaloosa Tuesday morning. Alabama Power engineering supervisor Logan Eads says it will be a difficult job, but worth it to help as many as possible.

“It makes you feel good to help people, and I know locally it’s very appreciated when people come into our territory, because we have our storms and tornadoes. It makes you feel good to be able to help people out who need assistance, and to be able to help folks out means a lot to us,” said Eads.

Eads says the mission is to restore power to at least 2 million residents who do not have electricity. Crews from Tuscaloosa are sending bucket trucks, pole setting trucks and will work 16 hours a day.

“We do 16 hours to try to work as long as we can a day and still give them eight hours rest. We don’t just want to work eight hours because this is vital part of life to get the power back on, and when the sun is up, we are going to be out working until we get the job done,” Eads said.

Eads says Alabama Power crews are expected to work 14 days in Texas.
