Kalen DeBoer reveals secret weapon wide receiver for Alabama Crimson Tide and his freakish athleticism

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been going through major transition this offseason. A new head coach in Kalen DeBoer, replacing the GOAT Nick Saban. A completely revamped secondary after losing Caleb Downs. And an offensive receiving group that just saw four of their top six receiving options leave for the NFL Draft or the Transfer Portal. Whatever will they do?

For starters, Kalen DeBoer and his fresh Alabama staff have answered the call by absolutely dominating on the recruiting trail . But beyond that, Alabama is realizing that despite all of the changes going on they still have an absolutely stacked roster with otherworldly athletes. And Kendrick Law might be the most impressive one of them all!

Kalen DeBoer joined Cole Cubelic on his show this week during SEC Media Days and couldn't stop talking about how impressive Kendrick Law is in terms of his athleticism and workouts.

"[Kendrick Law] hit 23.6 miles per hour in workouts, and he can absolutely fly...on top of being a 450-pound bench [press] guy."

Anyone running over 23 miles per hour is absolutely wild, but Kendrick Law was a verified speedster even coming out of high school. Prior to joining Alabama he ran a sub 10.5-second 100 meter dash time at his state level track meet when he was still just a junior in high school. This fact gets forgotten by many since Law has largely been relegated to very limited playing time at wide receiver.

However, late last season the Crimson Tide started getting Law more involved in creative ways with short quick passes, expanded work as a return man, and he even had a 40-yard rushing touchdown against Auburn called back on a penalty that didn't impact the play (as you can see in the video below). Law was showcasing his speed in limited action already in 2023, but now he should see a hugely expanded role as a starter this fall.

Kalen DeBoer's note about Law's incredible bench press numbers (450 pounds!) are what stand out even more to those familiar with him already. Most fans who follow Alabama closely understand Law is quick, but his power to put defenders in the ground if they get close is uncanny as well. On a few occasions last year Law just put defenders in the dirt with one hand, making it look far too easy for a wide receiver of his size.

If quarterback Jalen Milroe can get him the ball more in space this season Law may begin to embarrass defenders on a week to week basis with both his speed and strength. And if that happens, Law very well might just be the secret weapon that the Alabama Crimson Tide needs for their offense to take it up a notch in 2024.
