Red Lobster closes Tuscaloosa restaurant on McFarland Boulevard

Red Lobster, a fixture on the Tuscaloosa restaurant scene for decades, has closed its doors permanently.

A sign posted Wednesday on the restaurant's door at 2620 McFarland Blvd. E reads:

"This location is closed. We look forward to serving you at another Red Lobster location in the future."

The closure comes after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year and subsequently closed more than 100 of its restaurants across the nation.

Red Lobster filed for bankruptcy on May 19 after closing dozens of locations and announcing that it intended to "drive operational improvements" by simplifying the business. Documents later filed in federal court revealed that the bankruptcy was primarily due to significant debt, a carousel of CEOs, an all-you-can-eat shrimp fiasco and a 30% drop in guests since 2019, according to an article by USA Today.

In Alabama, Red Lobster has also closed restaurants in Auburn, Decatur, Huntsville and Mobile.
