Earlier this month, Monroe, North Carolina, defensive back Jordan Young narrowed his recruitment down to four schools. Those were Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, and N.C. State.

On Saturday night, however, Young posted on his Instagram story a photo of him in an Alabama jersey from a previous visit . It was captioned, “hmmm” with the elephant emoji at the end.

Young had been on Bama’s radar earlier this year after being offered and taking a visit for the Feb. 3 junior day; the Tide would go on to make his top eight in late April . Communication slowed down, but recently picked up after a phone call with safeties coach Colin Hitschler .

“Last weekend, Coach Hitsch gave me a call saying he really wanted to give this a real go and pursue me real hard,” Young told BamaOnLine . “So, that’s when they came back into the picture and he’s been in heavy communication with me ever since. We’ve just been talking about setting up a potential visit during the season.”

Young still has the group of favorites mentioned above intact, with N.C. State receiving a visit from him last week. He will, however, leave the door open to Alabama potentially being in contention when it’s time to make a decision.

“They definitely have a shot, but they have a lot of work to do,” Young said. “They’ve been out of communication with me and they’re just getting back. So, they’ve got a lot of work to do if they want to get back in that race, but I definitely see them as having a chance to get back into the race.”

Hitschler and Young have already discussed a possible official visit date to Alabama. If one was to transpire, it would be the weekend of the Georgia game (Sept. 28-29), which falls during Young’s bye week.

And why is he keeping things open to Bama after already narrowing down his recruitment?

“They’re proven winners,” Young replied. “A lot of DBs have been put in the league from there. Football is the main thing. That’s what I want to do. They’re just proven winners. I feel like the new staff is going to keep the tradition going with the winning. Alabama is not slowing down; they’re just reheating up with new people. I’m just excited to potentially be a part of that.”

Young, the No. 12 safety in the country, says the Crimson Tide’s 2025 class that has been put together so far is evidence of them not slowing down.

“Their recruiting class has been unreal,” Young said. “Even though they’ve had some decommits, their class is over-the-top good. It just shows that nothing is changing around there. They’re still getting the top guys and the proof is in the pudding, so why not be a part of it?”

Young reflects on previous visit to T-Town: “It’s just different at Alabama.”

The No. 4 player in the state of North Carolina has spoken with Hitschler about how he’d be utilized at Bama. Hitschler says he can see Young playing everywhere in the secondary, and highlighted his versatility, ability to get the ball out of the air, and also how he can turn interceptions into touchdowns as his top attributes.

“He just said that he’s looking for guys to play immediately when they get there because they’re graduating a lot of safeties,” Young said of Hitschler’s message. “They don’t really have time to waste with rebuilding. He’s just looking for safeties like that, and he just sees me as one of those players.”

Young also shared his thoughts on Alabama’s new 4-2-5 scheme that they’ll be rolling out this season.

“It’s definitely safety-friendly,” Young said. “Just fits my game style perfectly, and I think I just fit well into their game play and style perfectly. It wouldn’t be too much of a change from what I do in high school.”

Although communication recently picked up, Alabama already hosting Young on campus to see the new staff this year helps their chances of getting back into the mix.

Young reflected on that previous visit and what stood out to him the most after meeting with Kalen DeBoer and Company.

“Just their plan and it’s just different at Alabama,” Young said. “It’s a winning culture and everything. It just feels different around there. The things you see at Alabama, you just don’t see anywhere else. They’ve got the new stuff. Everything you need is right there for you. If you want to go to the league, that’s the place to go.”

Young has locked in a commitment date of Oct. 12. He’s looking for a place that is both family-oriented and where he will have a chance to play early.

He’ll be in attendance for Clemson vs. Georgia on Aug. 31 (neutral site), Florida State vs. Memphis on Sept. 14, Clemson vs. N.C. State on Sept. 21, and also N.C. State vs. Wake Forest on Oct. 5.

Most schools are recruiting him for safety, but N.C. State is giving him a chance to play on both sides of the ball.
