Commission denies appeal, rejects Peninsula tobacco shop’s request to sell beer and wine
Planning Commission unanimously denied an appeal last week and rejected a Balboa Peninsula tobacco shop’s request to sell beer and wine for off-site consumption. Commissioners voted 7-0 on Thursday (Aug. 22) to uphold the zoning administrator’s decision to deny a minor use permit to allow a type 20 (off-sale beer and wine) Alcoholic Beverage Control license at Tanar’s Tobacco, located at 2233 West Balboa Blvd. The type 20 license would allow the existing retail business to sell beer and wine for off-site consumption. The appellant noted that the alcohol sales would be ancillary to the primary services and were being requested due to the state’s constrictive regulations placed on tobacco, which is significantly impacting their business.
