TVLine has an exclusive behind-the-scenes first look at Ryan Murphy’s high-seas ABC drama, which finds Jackson’s Dr. Max Bankman in a compromising position (or two) with Nurse Avery, played by Broadway superstar Phillipa Soo.

“Please don’t tell the captain,” Max playfully whispers to Avery following footage of the two getting hot and heavy. “Oh, I was just about to text him,” she replies with a smile.

ABC debuted the first footage of Doctor Odyssey earlier this a month via an eye-popping promo declaring that Jackson was bringing “big deck energy” to the high seas, all while his character performed CPR on an unconscious patient. So it seems this is a doctor with multiple specialties.

On this ship of dreams (and occasionally nightmares), “the staff works hard and plays harder,” according to ABC’s official synopsis. “It’s all hands on deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.”

Jackson told TVLine in May , that the series is “Ryan Murphy at his outrageous, over-the-top best.” He added that the scripts “are written with a lot of joy, and they’re very funny and they move very fast.”

Don Johnson ( Miami Vice ) and Sean Teale also star in Doctor Odyssey , which premieres on Thursday, Sept. 26. at 9/8c between 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy .
