Roy Wood Jr. does, in fact, have news for you.

The former Daily Show correspondent has been tapped to host CNN’s Have I Got News For You , a Stateside version of the comedy panel series first popularized in the U.K.

First announced at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfront presentation in May (and described as a limited series), the American edition of Have I Got News For You “delivers comic observations, from the satirical to the surreal, through the lens of a news quiz show,” per its official description, testing the knowledge of a rotating collection of guests including entertainers, political figures and comedians.

In addition to Wood Jr. as host, the show will feature two yet-to-be-announced team captains. The series premieres Saturday, Sept. 14, at 9/8c on CNN and will be available to stream on Max the following day.

“For far too long immigrants have been coming to America and taking Black jobs, kudos to CNN and the immigrants at Hat Trick Productions for bringing a Black job to the States,” Wood Jr. joked in a statement on Thursday. “It is an honor to be a part of such a hallowed British institution to help make sense of the American institutions of chaos, name calling, disinformation, reality television and the eight-hour news cycle.”

Wood Jr. is best known for his eight-year stint as a correspondent on Trevor Noah’s version of The Daily Show , a job that Wood Jr. surprisingly announced he was leaving in October 2023, even amid speculation that he might replace Noah as host of the Comedy Central series. In announcing his departure, Wood Jr. told NPR that it had become infeasible for him to remain as a Daily Show correspondent while simultaneously planning the next step in his career.

“I can’t come up with Plan B… while still working with Plan A,” he said. “The job of correspondent… it’s not really one where you can juggle multiple things. [And] I think eight years is a good run.”
