Enjoy your pleasant dreams while you still can, because a new teaser trailer for Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie is full of nightmare fuel.

FX on Thursday unveiled the horror series’ first footage — and in the vein of all American Horror Story trailers before it, the video shows us just enough to prove things will get weird for Niecy Nash-Betts and company.

Nash-Betts stars as Detective Lois Tryon as she investigates a string of heinous crimes in her small town. The catch? These crimes are starting to feel “eerily personal, as if someone — or something — is taunting her,” warns the official logline.

On top of her responsibilities with the case, Lois also has a lot on her plate at home. Her husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) in long-term hospital care, and she has a strained relationship with her daughter Merritt (Raven Goodwin).

Not sure where to begin, Lois accepts the assistance of Sister Megan (Michaela Diamond), a nun and reporter for the Catholic Guardian . “Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.”

Grotesquerie also stars Lesley Manville as Nurse Redd, Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Father Charlie, and Travis Kelce in an undisclosed role. (Split-second footage of Kelce does appear in the trailer, though.)

The 10-episode first season of Grotesquerie will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c, with episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu. The series is written and created by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, all of whom executive-produce alongside Alexis Martin Woodall, Max Winkler, Nash-Betts, Peter Liguori, Nissa Diederich, Eric Kovtun and Scott Robertson.
