S.W.A.T. Boss Offers an Update on That Street/Chris Wedding Tease

Is S.W.A.T. heading for a wedding?

The CBS cop drama last season sure teased a big day for fan-favorite couple Jim Street and Christina “Chris” Alonso, when at the very end of original cast member Alex Russell’s final episode in March, Street dropped a li’l bomb on Tan.

“How’s this — Chris and I will have you over in a few weeks for the engagement party,” Street told his good friend, adding with a wink: “Just don’t say anything yet, especially to Chris!”

Thing is, Street then rode off on his motorcycle to head up a former boss’ SWAT team down in Long Beach, while original cast member Lina Esco’s Chris similarly bid 20-Squad adieu the season prior, to run a safe house for immigrant women.

Since Esco’s exit, Street and Chris pursued their long-stalled romance — albeit off -screen. But the hope is that, if the stars align, longtime viewers will one day be able to RSVP for a #Stris wedding.

“You know, I would love to [do a wedding],” S.W.A.T . showrunner Andrew Dettman told TVLine as part of our in-depth Fall TV Preview Q&A. “In our minds, Street and Chris are still very much part of the SWAT family.”

But with neither Russell nor Esco still on the cast (though the former might return to direct in Season 8), fans will have to be patient. And don’t worry that the two might tie the knot off -screen.

“No, I wouldn’t do that,” Dettman promised.

In the meantime, Dettman suggested, Street and Chris “are still together, doing their thing. We did that little nod that they’re engaged, always hoping that we would have the opportunity to [follow up with a wedding]. The door is open to all of the characters form the past [to return in some capacity], because I think the audience would love that and we would love that. The door is open for Luca (played by Kenny Johnson until mid-Season 7) or Street or Chris to somehow work back into some episodes. I would be thrilled about that.”

CBS’ S.W.A.T. kicks off the season it almost didn’t get on Friday, Oct. 18, leading into Fire Country Season 3 and the very final eight episodes of Blue Bloods .
