At long last, Kate & Allie is available to binge — more than 40 years after its series premiere.

All six seasons of the Susan Saint James-Jane Curtin comedy are now streaming, free of charge. The CBS classic has quietly surfaced on the ad-supported Roku Channel, which is accessible via the Roku app and TheRokuChannel.com .

Created by Sherry Coben, Kate & Allie revolved around two recently divorced women — James’ Kate McArdle and Curtin’s Allie Lowell — who decided to pool their resources and raise their children under one roof in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The cast also included Ari Meyers (as Kate’s daughter Emma), Frederick Koehler (as Allie’s son Chip) and Allison Smith (as Allie’s daughter Jennie).

After a successful midseason launch in 1984, CBS renewed the series for a 22-episode second season. It remained a Top 20 hit through Season 5 and amassed a dozen Emmy nominations during its run, including three consecutive nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, and three consecutive nods for both James and Curtin in the Outstanding Lead Actress category, all from 1984 to 1986. Curtin won twice, in 1984 and 1985, while the show took home its only other Emmy for Outstanding Directing in 1984.

When the series first began, Kate worked as a travel agent, while Allie stayed home and took care of domestic duties while pursuing a college degree. After Kate quit her job in Season 5, the duo started their own catering business. And that wasn’t the only big change: Allie started dating — and quickly married — sportscaster Bob Barsky (played by Sam Freed). In Season 6, newly wedded Allie moved out of the brownstone she shared with Kate and into a new apartment with Bob. But shortly after that, Kate moved into the new apartment as well. Viewership declined, and CBS cancelled the show.

All told, 122 episodes were produced over six seasons. Its series finale aired May 22, 1989. Thirty-two years later, NBC began development on a reboot with executive producers Erica Oyama and Nahnatchka Khan ( Young Rock ), but the project did not move forward .
