There was a great disturbance in the Force on Aug. 19 when news broke that Disney+ had cancelled Star Wars offshoot The Acolyte after a single season — but one cast member is hopeful that we haven’t seen the last of Osha and the gang.

“Honestly, I am hoping that maybe there could be changes in the future,” Lee Jung-jae, who played Jedi Master Sol, tells EW . “Because you never know what’s going to happen. So on a personal level, I really hope we could get to see further stories of [creator Leslye Headland] second season.”

Set during the final days of the High Republic era, The Acolyte starred Amandla Stenberg as Osha, a former Padawan who reunited with her Jedi Master (Lee) to investigate a series of crimes — only to find themselves up against a force more sinister than they ever could have anticipated.

Even though Lee acknowledges that his character “wouldn’t have appeared in the second season” due to the events of the finale , he was “really looking forward to watching a Season 2,” largely because of his appreciation for Headland’s vision. “I thought that she was a great writer and director who was very talented in the storytelling, as well as creating characters and creating meaningful structures within the story,” he explains, adding that he was “quite surprised” to hear the show wouldn’t be returning.

Meanwhile, series star Manny Jacinto — whose character, the Stranger, very much would have appeared in Season 2 — memorialized The Acolyte with this simple Instagram post on Aug. 22:
