Doctor Odyssey: Joshua Jackson Braces for Impact in Medical Drama’s First Trailer — Plus, Shania Twain Set to Guest-Star

Doctor Odyssey ‘s Joshua Jackson is setting sail and saving lives in the medical drama’s brand-new trailer released Monday.

From 9-1-1 creator Ryan Murphy, Doctor Odyssey follows Max (Jackson), the new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship “where the staff works hard and plays harder,” says the ABC synopsis. “It’s all hands on deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.”

In the new trailer, Jackson’s Dr. Max Bankman first boards The Odyssey, not knowing what to expect from his new position. With a bit of advice from Don Johnson’s character (“It’s not a question of when you encounter waves, but what you do when they come up.”), Max gets to work, fielding one medical crisis after another as passengers fall overboard and the ship endures plenty of choppy waters.

Plus, guest star and country sensation Shania Twain can be seen twirling on a dance floor, though details on her character remain TBA.

Jackson told TVLine in May , that the series is “Ryan Murphy at his outrageous, over-the-top best.” He added that the scripts “are written with a lot of joy, and they’re very funny and they move very fast.”

Johnson ( Miami Vice ), Sean Teale ( The Gifted ) and Phillipa Soo ( Shining Girls ) will co-star in the procedural, which will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 26. at 9/8c between 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy .

Joining Murphy as writers are FEUD: Capote Vs. The Swans collaborators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. Additionally, Paris Barclay, another veteran of Murphy productions such as American Horror Story and The Watcher , will direct the pilot.
