The Tonight Show Scaling Back to 4 New Episodes Per Week

Jimmy Fallon is officially downsizing. The Tonight Show will now only air four new episodes per week (Monday through Thursday), reserving Fridays for reruns, TVLine has confirmed.

Prior to this announcement, The Tonight Show was the only major late-night talk show to still put out new episodes on Fridays. The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (CBS), Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC), Late Night With Seth Meyers (NBC) and The Daily Show (Comedy Central) already function on a four-episode schedule.

But don’t take this to mean that Fallon is saying goodbye anytime soon. Earlier this year, NBC renewed its deal with Fallon and The Tonight Show to keep them on the air through 2028.

A decrease in viewership has become apparent across the entire late-night landscape in recent years, resulting in various cutbacks. In June it was reported that Late Night would be losing its house musicians, known as The 8G Band, as part of cost-cutting measures.

New episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon air Monday through Thursday at 11:35/10:35c on NBC.

USA Today was the first report The Tonight Show ‘s scheduling change. Are you surprised by this move? Disappointed? Completely indifferent? However you’re feeling, drop a comment with your thoughts below.
