Tyler Perry has conquered Hollywood, and now his TV empire is expanding to include Netflix.

Perry’s first series for the streamer, Beauty in Black , will debut Thursday, Oct. 24, TVLine has learned, with Perry serving as creator, director, writer and executive producer. The hour-long drama “follows two women leading very different lives,” per the official description: “While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”

Netflix has also unveiled the first teaser for Beauty in Black — which you can watch above — with Taylor Polidore Williams ( Snowfall ) as Kimmie, who’s staying in a seedy motel and working at an, um, gentlemen’s club, and Crystle Stewart ( For Better or Worse ) as the affluent Mallory, who runs a glamorous beauty brand. But this is a Tyler Perry show, after all, so there’s also sex, scandal, people getting slapped — and someone getting hit by a car, for good measure.

Perry first inked a deal with Netflix in October 2023, but the deal previously only covered films like Mea Culpa , starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes, which premiered on the streamer in February. Perry’s other TV credits include BET’s The Oval and Sistas and BET+ spinoffs Ruthless and Zatima .
