The following contains an Earpin’ amount of spoilers from Wynonna Earp: Vengeance , the 90-minute reunion special/don’t-call-it-a-movie now streaming on Tubi.

Your favorite demon-slaying gunslinger was put back to work in Wynonna Earp: Vengeance , now streaming on Tubi.

Wynonna (played by Melanie Scrofano) and Doc’s (Tim Rozon) life of adventure (…or at least card counting?) was brought to a halt once the former got word that a brand-new demon (Mina, played by Karen Knox) had ventured from Hell to Purgatory and promptly disassembled poor Mercedes (Dani Kind).

Returning home, Wynonna and Doc reunited with Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), Nicole (Kat Barrell) and Nedley (Greg Lawson), then came to realize that Wynonna herself had unwittingly turned Mina into a demon back when they were teens living at a group home.

Once again, we warn you — Vengeance spoilers ahead!!!

When Mina unleashed a platoon of ghouls on Purgatory, Wynonna & Co. successfully fought them off. Wynonna then used the ice-fishing hole in Nedley’s shed to visit Hell herself and trap Mina, Ghostbusters -style, in a dainty collection box crafted by Waverly. Upon Wynonna’s return, alas, the new Black Badge agent they’d been working with double-crossed them and took said box, for questionable purposes. Doc quickly swung into action (on horseback!), intercepting the agent and his minions and challenging them to a quick-draw. Doc in one swift motion gunned down all of ’em… but , we would learn, was also fatally shot himself. Cue oh-so-sad death scene, with Wynonna cradling her love in her arms.

In the epilogue, Jeremy (Varun Saranga) put in an appearance, after which Waverly accepted an offer to put in some time with Black Badge’s overseas office — with Nicole’s blessing. Haught in turn gained herself a new deputy, in Wynonna!

TVLine spoke with series creator Emily Andras about the multiple Vengeance deaths, whether #WayHaught will weather this time apart, and the un-killable supernatural drama’s future.

TVLINE | A demon accidentally created by Wynonna was a clever spin on things. Is that an idea you come up with years ago and decided to put aside for a rainy day?
    EMILY ANDRAS |
I would like to say I did, but no I created it for this. I felt that, because this was only 90 minutes, we needed to really make the stakes personal. And I was really interested in the idea of guilt and blame and shame. Look, we’ve all done stuff when we were teenagers that was kind of crazy, and some of those mistakes keep us up at night. But also there’s something that haunts me about mistakes we’ve made that we don’t know about, people who might have something against us that we can’t decipher. So, the idea that Wynonna was both responsible and not, I found really fit in the shades of gray that we like to do with her. And when she’s a demon who looks as good as Karen Knox, you’re like, “Whoa, that’s also pretty intense.”

TVLINE | Plus, the idea was special for a special, whereas bringing back Eve [from the final season on Syfy], you can always do that another time.
Well, the truth is — I can talk about it now — new network, new mandate, right? We were so lucky that Tubi was really interested in this fandom and the world of Earp, but you have four seasons of mythology and let’s be honest, it gets pretty weedy. I knew the hardcore Earpers were going to show up, but we want them to be able to tell their stepmom and their uncle and their niece, “You can show up, too! Just understand that Wynonna’s a hot mess with a demon-killing gun and this is her dysfunctional posse of people.”

I did think initially it would be more a continuation of some of the stuff from Season 4, including Eve, but we really needed a one-off. But from your lips, maybe if we get a sequel, Eve is still out there trudging towards Purgatory, shapeshifting as she goes.

TVLINE | I reckon it hurt you as much to kill Mercedes as it did to kill Doc.
Oh, it did, and God bless Dani Kind. It’s so funny, I was just texting her before this Zoom because she’s such a fun performer and we put her through the wringer on this show, right? Like, Mercedes has been wearing rotting clothing, she’s had her face ripped off, she’s been a vampire, numerous hair dyes…. But we knew we needed a catalyst for Wynonna’s return. At the same time, it had to be tragic, but it couldn’t be so devastating that we couldn’t have any fun for the rest of the special. Mercedes is a character who is beloved, but she went out swinging, she went out bravely defending Nedley—

TVLINE | She went out with her body parts spelling the show title!
She went out looking like a sexy highlighter! It’s all we could ever want at the end. Nothing was wasted. So, it did kill me, but that’s the kind of stakes I knew we had to have to earn a special. It couldn’t just be another episode of Earp . It had to be slightly bigger.

TVLINE | Doc’s death… I was trying to read Tim [Rozon]’s expression when I asked him whether he requested it, or was surprised by it….
Well, I’m not as good an actor as Mr. Tim Rozon, so I will say that Tim is the Earpiest Earp whoever Earped, and he actually had a bit of a hand in being the person who pitched this. He sort of went to Tubi and said, “You guys should look at Earp. It has such a passionate, huge audience,” and I think he understood that Doc’s journey would be intriguing. Doc has lived for 175 years, he’s tried it all, so what’s the ultimate next adventure? Death. So, I wouldn’t say that Tim was surprised. I would say he would love to keep Earping like the rest of us, so we’ll see what happens next. But he was pretty gracious about it.

TVLINE | During a #WayHaught scene, the K-word — kids — briefly came up . I just want to say that if I’m the two of them planning a family in the world of Earp , I would be very wary of who/where that genetic material one day comes from!
Spoken like a good dad. Listen, people with more complicated histories have made many a baby back in the day. But yeah, didn’t that feel like a mature conversation? They’re married, so it seems like the logical next step is to at least discuss it. But it has certainly given Wynonna pause about potentially bringing Alice back to this world, right? Like, how do you bring your child back to a war zone, to a demon-infiltrated town? Even if the weather is beautiful and there’s great curling, it’s kind of tricky. I would be interested to know what Wayhaught’s future is regarding children and progeny. But I’m glad they at least talked about it before they got so rudely interrupted.

TVLINE | Well, things with WayHaught overall seemed a touch wobbly. Could Waverly going on this trip be one Jenga block too many getting pulled out, or is it the ultimate demonstration of faith and resiliency?
Oh, my God, Matt, you’re trying to get my house egged! [ Laughs ] No, I would ask, have you ever met a couple more in love than WayHaught? No, they are each other’s soulmates. I think that their marriage is solid, but again, Earp has never done anything traditionally, from a pregnant heroine to going down for financial reasons [between Seasons 3 and 4], whatever. That’s how I approached this special. I was like sure, we’ve all seen a beautiful wedding, the fairytale “riding off into the sunset,” but let’s talk about what happens next. I was really intrigued by that idea. So, I do think it’s possible that their marriage is very solid and they adore one another, but you also grow as a person.

TVLINE | And do a lot of crafting.
And do a lot of crafting. Sexy crafting. That chore wheel, we still don’t know what that means. But I think you can’t expect everything in your life from just one person. You have to work on yourself. It’s OK to have ambition and especially for women, I think sometimes they feel guilty. But Waverly is so smart, she’s never left this town. It is her turn to go on a journey and an adventure, but I truly have every confidence that she will come back better than ever, probably running Black Badge. But the relationship needed stakes. It needed a bit of shake up, I think. But don’t worry, don’t worry, I’m not Jenga’ing anyone yet.

TVLINE | What will a law enforcement team of Nicole and Wynonna look like?
It will look like such a mess. I could write a whole show just about that. It’s like Keystone Cops — three nights a week Sheriff Nicole is going to have to put her own deputy in the drunk tank, and definitely people are going to wake up handcuffed to other people ,or to the wrong bedpost. I think it’s going to be hilarious. Their beautiful chaos may make them the hottest team in town, but it’s going to be a lot. Do I think Nicole can wrangle Wynonna? Absolutely not, no way in Hell. That werewolf is going get the best of them, but I would pay to see it.

TVLINE | Which Easter eggs in this special are you most proud of?
Even though we don’t delve into the fact that Waverly is half-angel, there’s a couple of references to her being an angel, almost in passing, by Wynonna — I thought that was a nice nod to the fans. I like the crocheted cheerleading outfit because there’s such a famous episode where we open with Waverly recreating her high school cheerleading routine for Nicole who’s just open-mouthed…. But this is a good challenge for the fans, I want them to list on your site what Easter eggs they found!

TVLINE | The minimal Jeremy that we got… was that a scheduling thing, or was it storyline-dictated because you needed Black Badge to be compromised?
It was a bit of both. We didn’t want to flood the zone with every character who had ever been on the show, because if you were tuning in for the first time, you’re like, “Who’s this guy?” “Who’s this person?” We really needed to concentrate on the core four, kind of establish that. I mean, Varun who plays Jeremy is the most delightful guy, but we didn’t want the whole story to be Black Badge — and it felt kind of delightful to save a cameo till the end as well, to be honest. Especially after such a fraught death, it felt a little like a little bit of comfort that Jeremy was there at the end.

TVLINE | How soon could we ostensibly get more Wynonna Earp ? And is Tubi now your regular Saturday night gal?
Tubi is my boyfriend/girlfriend, yes. I love them, they’ve been incredible. I think they’re willing, but it really depends, like so many things in this business, on numbers and views and buzz. So, if you are an Earper and you want more Earp, all you’ve got to do is watch it 55 million times and keep clamoring. And I will just say that going back into the Earp world really rejuvenated me, too, for storytelling, so I’m good to go. I will do Earp: Golden Girls edition in 30 years if you want me to.

TVLINE | Speaking of Tubi, did they allow you to push things a scooch more? There was a little skin in the Wynonna/Doc love scene, and Wynonna and Mina were calling each other some names down in Hell….
They sure were — some names that are fine in Britain, but a little more loaded in America. By the last season, Syfy was pretty OK, but Tubi is like, “You can say whatever you want, you can push the agenda,” so that was pretty exciting.
