The stalwart Abbott Elementary staff has so much to contend with in the Season 4 trailer above, who wouldn’t begrudge them a raise — or at least a restocking of paper towels.

Ahead of the acclaimed comedy’s return (on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 9:30/8:30c, where it now leads out of The Golden Bachelorette ), ABC has released a mishap-packed trailer featuring a surely-unwelcome visit from HR, an unleashing of nippy class pets, and a ringworm outbreak that has at least one of the teachers calling for the whole damn place to be burned to the ground.

What else is on tap for Season 4? As detailed as part of TVLine’s Fall TV Preview spectacular , the new school year indeed brings new threats for Abbott. “There’s this larger, looming change happening in the neighborhood where Abbott is, essentially, located, and we’re seeing the impact of that on our school,” executive producer/star Quinta Brunson shared with us.

Meanwhile, Brunson didn’t spill if Janine and Gregory’s heated finale kiss means the pair is now officially a couple, but “it is something that changes their dynamic,” she said.

Elsewhere, viewers will meet some of Jacob’s family; Barbara mulls making “changes” to keep up with an evolving world; “flat-out funny” Melissa episodes will showcase the unsung Lisa Ann Walter; and even the mysterious Mr. Johnson will get “larger storylines.”
