Eduardo Xol, a TV personality best known for his multi-season run as a designer on ABC’s original Extreme Makeover: Home Edition , died on Sept. 19, a little over a week after reportedly being found stabbed, TMZ reports. He was 58.

The Riverside County, Calif., coroner reports that Xol passed away last Friday , 10 days after Palm Springs Police Department officers said they found him at his home, seriously injured by a reported stabbing.

The police told TMZ that a 34-year-old man from Cathedral City, Calif., has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with Xol’s assault and death, and is currently being held without bail.

In a statement, Xol’s family said: “We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. As his family, we know that his kindness has touched the lives of so many.  We ask for that kindness returned now allowing our privacy to be respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America as he spent so much of his life in the service of others.”

Richard Pérez-Feria, a journalist and longtime friend of Xol’s, remembered him on Facebook as “a talented, beautiful, passionate friend, brother, son and partner . The millions of laughs, hopes and secrets we shared remain at the fore of my thoughts.”

Xol made his debut on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition , in Season 2, and appeared as a designer across multiple seasons, through Season 9 (of the original series’ 10). His TV credits also include talk show appearances, the 2006 Walt Disney World Christmas Parade, the 2010 Hollywood Christmas Parade and assorted award shows.

Xol at one time had a monthly column in People en Español and AOL LATINO, and was named one of the “50 Most Beautiful” by People en Espanol and one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in America by Hispanic Magazine . His first book, Home Sense , was published in April 2007 in both English and Spanish, and a second book, Extreme Entertaining Made Simple , was published in the fall of 2008.
