Maybe the real treasure were the freaks and geeks we met along the way.

NBC’s Freaks and Geeks premiered 25 years ago today. To mark the anniversary, some of the cult-favorite series’ stars and executive producer Judd Apatow posted both posed and behind-the-scenes photos of the William McKinley High Schoolers in their element.

“Some days I can’t believe it’s been that long,” Samm Levine wrote on Instagram. “Other days, it sure feels like a lifetime ago. But a quarter century later, I’m truly humbled at how Freaks and Geeks is still being talked about, still finding new fans, and still bringing joy to so many people.”

Levine, who played Neal Schweiber on the one-season dramedy, was part of a cast that included several future stars: Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Busy Phillips, John Francis Daley and Martin Starr among them.

Starr, who played Bill Haverchuck, posted several photos of himself on set , as well. “Happiest I’ve ever been,” he wrote on a black-and-white pic of him, Levine and Daley goofing around.

Freaks and Geeks centered on a sweet group of social-outcast teens in Michigan the early 1980s. As TVLine previously wrote , the Paul Feig-created show was “one of the most hilariously accurate portraits of adolescence that’s ever aired, with a sharp eye for the very specific agony of teen life — whether you were a freak, a geek or somewhere in between — and a cast brimming with future stars. Its blurring of the line between comedy and drama was revolutionary… and, sadly, just a bit ahead of its time.” (The show was cancelled before it even had time to finish airing its first — and only — season.)

Apatow joined in the reminiscing with an Instagram post of his own: a picture of Cardellini, who played Lindsay Weir, and Sarah Hagan, who played Millie Kentner, looking less than enthusiastic one day on set. “Happy 25th anniversary Freaks and Geeks !” he wrote in the caption.

In an Instagram post of his own, Rogen added: “It’s rare to get to be a part of something so heartfelt and resonant, and I’m very grateful it was my first experience as an actor, and I’m honored to be amongst its cast.”
