It’s one and done for Hulu’s Black Cake , which will not be back for a second season at the streamer, TVLine has learned.

The cancellation comes nearly a year after Black Cake first premiered on Hulu in November 2023. Its Season 1 finale, now a series finale, dropped on Dec. 6.

Based on Charmaine Wilkerson’s 2022 novel of the same name, Black Cake centered on two siblings — Benny and Byron Bennett, played by Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren and Them ‘s Ashley Thomas, respectively — who learn about their late mother’s past when she leaves them a flash drive “that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America,” per the official synopsis. “These stories, narrated by Eleanor ( Into the Badlands ‘ Chipo Chung), shock her children and challenge everything they thought they knew about their family’s origin.”

The cast also included Mia Isaac ( The Perfect Couple ), Lashay Anderson ( Rebel Cheer Squad ), Faith Alabi ( Industry ), Ahmed Elhaj ( Grantchester ) and TV veteran Glynn Turman.

Friday’s Black Cake news marks Hulu’s second cancellation of the day: The streamer has also axed dramedy series UnPrisoned , starring Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo, after two seasons.
