Pachinko Finale Sneak Peek: Noa and Hansu Disagree About the Future — Plus, the Latest on Season 3 (Exclusive)

In the Pachinko Season 2 finale (streaming this Friday on Apple TV+), the year is 1951 and Noa (played by Kang Tae-Ju) is absolutely thriving at Waseda University.

Alas, his plans for his future may not jibe with those envisioned by ( ahem ) his mother’s special friend, Hansu (Lee Min-ho) — as seen in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek above.

In the season finale, titled “Chapter Sixteen,” Solomon (Jin Ha) in the 1989 storyline learns of an old enemy’s fate, while his mother Sunja (Yuh-Jung Youn) — when presented with facts about her new gentleman friend — must decide between her past and her future.

Meanwhile in 1951, we see that Noa is now dating Anniko (Kilala Inori), the young woman that he locked eyes with upon arriving at Waseda. And as seen in the sneak peek above, he has a standing weekly dinner with Hansu — whom Noa does not know to be his biological father.

Press play to watch Hansu ask Noa about his life goals, and whether they align with what Hansu wants for his ( shhhh !) son.

The conversation above is cut short by the arrival of a most unexpected guest, and that sets in motion a sequence of events that lead to some of the most heartbreaking scenes you will watch on TV this year. If you have not read the novel on which the Pachinko TV series is based on, you will be clamoring to know what happens next — provided there is a Season 3.

Season 2 was ordered on the day that the Season 1 finale dropped in April 2022, but thus far there has been no decision announced about Season 3.

“No, we haven’t started officially,” series creator Soo Hugh told TVLine on Wednesday night.

“When I pitched to Apple and the buyers now five, six years ago, I pitched the entire [three-season] storyline,” Hugh added, “but we’re waiting for news on Season 3 — it’s out of our hands — and we’re also celebrating Season 2, making sure we get to enjoy this.”

TVLine readers gave Season 1, as well as this season’s premiere, a rare average grade of “A+” — and this TVLine writer is an enormous fan/supporter of the series. Alas, Pachinko , a multigenerational saga told in three languages, has yet to “pop” on Nielsen’s weekly U.S. ranking of streaming originals.

“It’s tough, because there are so many shows out there,” Hugh notes, “so it feels like, ‘How do we get our show out there, how do we get more eyeballs? How do we get more people to fall in love with it like you did?'”
