Netflix wants to make sure that The Diplomat stays on the job: The Keri Russell-led political drama has been renewed for Season 3, TVLine has confirmed, three weeks before its second season debuts on the streamer. Netflix chief content officer Bela Najaria announced the news on stage at the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles, our sister site Variety reports.

Russell stars as Kate Wyler, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, where she works to help solve an international crisis — and also works to salvage her crumbling marriage to fellow diplomat Hal, played by Rufus Sewell. The eight-episode Season 1 debuted in April 2023 and earned critical acclaim along with a number of award nominations, including an Emmy nod for Russell for best lead actress in a drama series.

Season 2, which premieres Thursday, Oct. 31 , picks up right where Season 1 left off, as “a deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world,” per the official description. “As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler, very much alive, and very much involved.” Plus, Emmy winner Allison Janney joins the cast in Season 2 as the U.S. Vice President Grace Penn.
