Morris Chestnut’s Watson will take the handoff from this season’s AFC Championship Game, when it debuts on CBS in January 2025.

The freshman medical mystery series will premiere after the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 (at approximately 10 pm ET, 9 pm CT, 8 pm MT and 7 pm PT).

Watson will begin airing in its regular Sundays-at-10 pm time slot on Sunday, Feb. 16.

Described as “a medical show with a strong investigative spine” and “featuring a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives,” Watson takes place six months after the death of the title character’s friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes, at the hands of the infamous Moriarty.

Chestnut stars as Dr. John Watson, who resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders.

“Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though,” the series synopsis warns, for “Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century.”

In addition to Chestnut ( The Resident , Rosewood ), the cast includes Eve Harlow ( The Night Agent , The 100 ), Peter Mark Kendall ( Strange Angel, Chicago Med ), Ritchie Coster ( Tulsa King, Happy! ), Inga Schlingmann ( So Help Me Todd ) and Rochelle Aytes ( S.W.A.T. ).

Craig Sweeny ( Elementary ) serves as showrunner and executive-produces with Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, director Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Aaron Kaplan and Brian Morewitz.
