    Retired major general found dead at Twentynine Palms Marine Base, NCIS investigating

    The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is conducting an investigation into the death of a retired major general whose body was found at the Marine base in Twentynine Palms.

    The body of retired Maj. Gen. William Mullen, 59, was found in a building at the Marine base on Saturday, according to the San Bernardino County coroner's office.

    Details on the Mullen's death were not available.

    "I can confirm that NCIS is conducting a thorough investigation into the death of retired Maj. Gen. William Mullen, as we do in response to any non-combat, medically unattended fatalities involving Navy and USMC equities, service members, and affiliated civilian personnel. Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS will not comment further while the investigation remains ongoing."

    According to the Marine Corps., Mullen was commissioned in 1986 from Marquette University. He served 34 years as an infantry officer, and was at one point the Marine aide to the U.S. President military aide, according to his biography .

    Prior to his retirement in 2020, Mullen was the commanding general for training and education command at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms.
