Michigan road conditions cost drivers thousands of dollars a year, study finds
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Michigan's bumpy roads aren't just annoying - they're costing drivers thousands of dollars a year. According to a new report from transportation non-profit TRIP, drivers in some areas of the state are paying upwards of $3,000 as a result of road conditions. These costs include repairs, accelerated vehicle depreciation, congestion-related losses like gas and time, and crashes where lack of road safety was a contributing factor.
Dow Receives Large Grant for Job retention
The State of Michigan has allocated a $120 million grant to Dow Chemical to retain roughly 5,000 jobs in the region. During its meeting on Tuesday, the Michigan Strategic Fund awarded the grant to Dow to support improvements to the company’s industrial park in Midland as well as its Auburn Operations facility. Dow says it’s working to expand its ability to manufacture materials that go into the creation of electric vehicle batteries. The State has also approved a 15-year State Essential Services Assessment property tax break and a 10-year extension to a Renaissance Zone tax incentive.
New Michigan law makes it easier for inmates with poor health to be released
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a law Tuesday that would make it easier for people to be released from Michigan prisons if they're in debilitating health and considered to be a minimal risk to the public.The new law replaces a 2019 law that was seen as vague and hard to apply. Only one person had been released, according to FAMM, an advocacy group that works for changes in criminal justice systems across the country.
